ANSWERS

What's this Going thing all about?

  1. What's this site about?
Going is something we started because it's great to be young in the city, and we wanted to make the most of it! It's a place to find out what's going on, who's going, what's the vibe. And to share cool goings-on you know about with your friends or the entire city if you like.

We want to make the city more fun and friendly so we also throw our own events: parties, concerts, happy hours, or whatever you want us to.

So check back for what's happening, share what you know, invite your friends and let's keep it going.

  2. How does the site work?
Sign up. Post a rad photo. See an event you like? Check off I'm Interested and we'll add it to your list so you won't lose track of it! Get our weekly newsletter with weekend event picks and photos of parties you may have missed.

Invite your friends so you can see what events they like, too. No more calling ten people just to figure out what to do. Or join our Groups or active Talk boards to chat with or find people with similar interests.

Throwing a little or big bash? Post your Private Party with our evite tools, or make it public. Get your Promo URL like going.com/myparty.

Want to promote your event? You can track and print Guestlists, sell tickets, and email your list.

    • Click Send.

  4. How do I withdraw a friend request?
Go to the person's profile that you have submitted the request and click Withdraw Request on the right. This is only available if they have not accepted the request.

  5. Is it okay to send friend requests to people I don't know?
Going.com is meant for people to connect with existing friends or to make new connections. So, if you feel you may get along with someone, then absolutely!
However, using friend requests for commercial or promotional purposes (spamming) violates the community Code of Conduct.

  6. I got a friend request from someone I don't know. Should I accept it?
If you feel the person would be an interesting new contact for you, yes!
However, use caution if it appears the request is coming from someone with a commercial interest or is simply trying to amass a lot of connections. Remember, that once you accept the friend request, that person can see the full name you entered, as well as send you messages, but they won't see your email address. It's best to choose friends you feel you can trust.

  7. If I decline someone's friend request, will they be notified?
No, you won't see the friend request pending on your My Stuff page and to the other person, it will appear as if they never invited you.

  8. If I remove someone as a friend, will they be notified?
No, you just won't appear on each other's friends list.

  9. What is a friend vs. a contact?
Friends are people you know and want to stay in touch with. You will get invite emails and messages from your Friends.
Contacts are people you want to check in with now and then. Don't worry...we won't notify them. You will not receive invite emails from Contacts, but you can check them on your My Stuff page periodically.

  10. How do I manage my friends and contacts?
    • On your My Stuff page, click on Manage Friends next to your photo.
    • You will see the profile photo for each friend or contact and the option to choose which category you wish to place them.
    • You can also change the person's status when you view their profile.

  11. How do I change someone from friend to contact and vice versa?
You can change someone on their profile by clicking Change to Friend/Contact next to their name. You can also go to My Friends and manage your friends and contacts from there.

Photo Tagging

  1. What is photo tagging?
Photo tagging allows you to "put a tag" on someone in a photo. Once a person is tagged in a photo, it's easy to find them again in that photo and other photos, directly from their profile. It's also good for making new connections. See someone in a picture from last week's party that you didn't get to meet? If they are tagged, just click on the tag and you'll be taken to their profile, where you can find out more about them and invite them to be your friend.

  2. How does tagging work?
If you see a photo with someone you want to tag:
    • Click the "Tag this Photo" button above the photo. This will put you in tagging mode.
    • Click on the person you want to tag.
    • Begin typing the name of the person you want to tag in the pop-up box.
      • The closest matches of your friends and contacts will appear below where you are typing
    • Choose the person you are looking for and click "tag."
    • If you don't see who you're looking for, or they are not a member, enter their email address where indicated to send them a link to the photo, then press "tag". Sending an email is optional.
    • Keep tagging as many people as you know in the photo. When you are done, click the "Done Tagging" button above the photo.

  3. How will I know if I'm tagged?
If you are tagged by another Going member, you will receive a notice from them in your Messages. You can also choose to be notified by email on the Settings page. By default, we have turned off this email.

  4. Where do I see photos I've been tagged in?
To see photos you've been tagged in, go to your Profile and click Photos. Then choose the link at the top of the page for "Photos tagged with 'your name'." You can find photos tagged with your friends by following the same steps from their profile.

  5. How do I delete a tag?
Were you tagged in a photo on a bad hair day? It happens to everyone. To delete a tag, simply click the 'delete' button next to the name of the tag you want to delete. You can only delete a tag if 1) the photo is yours, 2) you created the tag, 3) you are the one who is tagged. If you see any tags that should be deleted (i.e. offensive), please send a link to the page here.

  6. How do I control who tags me and my photos?
On the Settings page, you can control who is allowed to tag your photos, as well as who is allowed to tag you in photos.

      • If this is a subgroup of an existing group, select it from the subgroup list.
    • Click Create this Group.
    • Once you are on your group page, you can invite your friends on the site to join your group by clicking Send to Friends on the right side.
    • You should also post a welcome message on the comment board.
